End-of-Support for SQL Server 2008 Is Approaching Fast!

SQL Server 2008 and R2 are finally getting the boot! What are you going to do about it?

SQL Server 2008 and R2 are finally getting the boot! Depending on your job, you may identify with one of these:

The Database Administrator | “I really dislike playing the ‘raise your hand if you’re running SQL Server x game’ at conferences.  It’s embarrassing when I have to say we’re still running SQL Server 2008. I’m dying to upgrade and get all those features included in the newer versions. Can you believe there have been 5 upgrades since SQL Server 2008?”

The CFO | “They told us we needed to upgrade from SQL Server 2008.  How much is that going to cost us and how long will it take? Why is it necessary to even make the investment?”

The CIO | “Always On availability groups would really improve our High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategy.  My teams keep talking about the security features and performance improvements in SQL Server 2017.  Plus, I'd really like to get our  Compliance Officer off my back about our 11-year-old databases.”

The Compliance Officer | “Hold on a hot second.  You mean to say we’re running unsupported versions of SQL Server?  Are you not aware of our written internal security policy? We need features to make our life easier, ones that include encryption and data masking.”

The Users | “Our tracking system went down again this morning, right during an important customer call.  It’s the third time in the last two weeks. I don’t understand why those DBA’s can’t just solve the problem.”
